About ALTUS

Where your future in aviation takes off

Drones are the most exciting thing to happen to aviation in a generation. ALTUS — Advanced Learning & Training for Unmanned and Standard Aviation — exists to bring you into that future: to turn a fascination with flight into a licence, a skill and a career.

Our story

The sky just got bigger

ALTUS was started by people who love aviation and saw the sky opening up. For most of a century, becoming a pilot meant a decade of study and a small fortune between you and the flight deck. Drones changed that. Flight is now a career anyone can reach — and the feeling of commanding an aircraft is exactly as good as you imagine.

Unmanned aviation is where the industry is growing. Mapping, agriculture, film, inspections, security — and beyond visual line of sight logistics on the horizon. The pilots trained now will define what this industry becomes. We think that’s worth training for properly.

All of that excitement stands on real aviation professionalism. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

How we train

Enthusiasm, held to a standard

01 · Structured stages

Every course runs in phases

Training is broken into stages, each closing with a Stage Progress Check. You advance when every exercise meets standard — not when the calendar says so.

02 · Honest assessment

75% before you test

You pass an internal assessment at 75% before we put you forward for any SACAA exam or skills test. When you test, you’re ready.

03 · Mentorship

In your corner after the test

Your instructors stay reachable after the skills test — advice when a real contract raises a question you didn’t meet in training.

Where we train

A classroom in the city, a field on a real airfield

Classroom · Theory & exams

Spaces Waterfall, Midrand

Ground school, briefings and exams run at Spaces Waterfall — Gateway West, 22 Magwa Crescent, Waterfall City, Midrand. E-learning continues between sessions on the ALTUS portal.

Flight field · Practical training

Grasslands Flying Club, Centurion

Flight training happens on a real airfield, alongside manned aviation. You learn radio discipline, circuit awareness and airfield procedure the way working pilots do — because they’re operating around you.
