Restricted Radio Licence Course
Officially: the Restricted Radiotelephony Operator’s Certificate.
Operate an aviation radio legally and confidently on South African frequencies — one day of theory, simulated radio work, and the examiner’s test.
Who this course is for
You’re an RPC candidate whose school doesn’t offer the radio certificate, a manned-aviation student who needs it for a PPL, or a pilot bringing a lapsed file up to date.
It’s included in every ALTUS RPC course — this standalone day exists for everyone else.
What you’ll learn
Theory
5 hours of theory across twelve modules — phraseology, frequencies, procedures, emergencies — plus an hour of simulated radio work with headset and script.
The evaluation is oral and practical assessment, conducted by the approved Radiotelephony Examiner.
How training runs
One day in the classroom at Waterfall City, Midrand: theory and simulated R/T. You will then book to write the SACAA theory exam. Once completed, the examiner’s practical assessment will be booked once you feel prepared. The internal standard applies before you sit the test — you’re put forward when your radio work meets it.
What you leave with
The Restricted Radiotelephony Operator’s Certificate — legal use of an aviation radio on South African frequencies, and a prerequisite met for your RPC application.
